Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric Dentistry, otherwise known as Children's Dentistry or Pedodontics, is a recognized dental specialty by the American Dental Association and is specifically geared for the oral health of very young children (starting in early infancy) to young adults. Frederick Pediatric Dentistry is proud to have four pediatric dentists on our team to care for your children- Dr. Joseph Camacho, Ester Kim, and Dr. Josephine Amigo.

Your Child's First Dental Appointment

All children should visit a dentist by the time they are one year old. As pediatric dental specialists, we recognize that we are instrumental in developing a child's lifetime association with dentistry. We want to ensure that the first visit with us is as easy as possible. We therefore never promise to perform work on the first visit. In other words, the first appointment is usually for an exam only: a "get-to-know each other" visit to design a unique plan for your child's care.

We prefer to make your child feel safe, trusting, and comfortable with their surroundings. Parents are always invited to accompany their children during treatment! We use this first visit to obtain important information about your child which may impact any recommendations which we may give in regard to future treatment. Medical histories and any previous or failed treatment visits are noted and discussed with you, the parent or legal guardian, to ascertain the most appropriate method to best help your child.

Children with special needs need special consideration. Although we don't segregate our patients, we recognize that every child is a special gift on earth and belongs to our future, and will treat each one with the love and joy that they deserve and enrich us with.

Babies and the Dentist- First Visit by 12 Months!

All babies need to see a dentist by the time they are 12 months old. This policy is recommended by both the American Academies of Pediatrics and Pediatric Dentistry. Our office offers the first exam for any child under 18 months at no cost.

Why See A Pediatric Dentist

To become a pediatric dentist, a person must complete four years of college, four years of dental school, and at least 24 months beyond dental school in an Advanced Specialty Training (residency) program accredited by the American Dental Association. These residency programs are very competitive, and are usually based at major medical centers. Additionally, some pediatric dentists choose to become Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry after a rigorous, voluntary examination process. All four of our pediatric dentists are recognized specialists in their field.

In "layman" terms, Pediatric Dentists are trained specifically to see children.
